Idku: No BP gas project without our consent
لأعوام عديدة، أدت أنشطة شركات البترول لتولث إدكو والبحر الأبيض المتوسط، مدمرة لموارد ومصادر رزق المجتمع. وعندما رغبت بريتيش بتروليوم في إقامة مشروعها بإدكو، انتفض سكان إدكو الذين ضاق بهم الذرع من ممارسات شركات البترول وآثارها عليهم، رافضين لمزيد من التدمير لبيئتهم، ومعلنين “كفاية – شاطئنا ليس تابع لأي شركة. بدون موافقتنا الشعبية، مشروعكم قائم على الورق فقط”.
صفقات البترول مع بريتيش بتروليوم تعيد مصر لعهد من استعمار الموارد. مصر بالفعل من أقل دول المنطقة استفادة من عوائد البترول. غير أن بريتيش بتروليوم أيضاً أعادت التفاوض بشأن عقدها، مستحوذة على السيطرة على مشروع البترول من الدولة وعلى أرباح أعلى للشركة وعوائد أقل للحكومة؛ عقد قام مبارك بتوقيعه. والآن، يستمر الإخوان المسلمون على نفس النهج بتسليم السيطرة على موارد مصر العامة لشركات خاصة.
The oil companies have polluted Idku and the Mediterranean Sea for years, destroying people’s lives. Then BP came along and wanted to make it even worse. But the people of Idku had had enough, and said “No More – we’re not going to let you build here. Without our consent, your gas plant only exists on paper”.
“BP’s oil deals are returning Egypt to an era of oil colonialism. Egypt already benefited less from its oil than any other country in the region. Then BP renegotiated its contract, taking all control over the oil project away from the state, guaranteeing greater profits for the company and reduced revenues to the government. Mubarak signed the weakened contract. But today the Brotherhood is continuing this neocolonial process, handing over control of Egypt’s public resources to private companies.”
